I don't know about you but this year has gone by incredibly fast. It seems like only yesterday I was marveling at all the new leaves on the trees as springtime claimed its yearly place in time. Now over the past weeks I've been marveling at the fall colors and carpets of yellows, oranges, browns and reds left behind by the fallen leaves for us to enjoy.

It's been one of Utah's most beautiful falls in a long time. The canyon behind our house had been especially colorful so a couple of weekends ago I grabbed the camera and off I went to garner some shots. Unbeknownst to me I knelt in some poison ivy. So, as I'm writing this newsletter I'm squirming around in my chair trying to alleviate the itching from the rashes all over my body. I hope you REALLY appreciate the fall images I recently added to the gallery because I certainly paid the price getting them. :-)

  • digital versus film
  •    Olympus Digital CameraThere's much debate nowadays about which is better, digital or film cameras. On the one side you have the diehard 35mm camera users who think that digital images will never match the quality of a film camera.

On the other side you have digital camera users who say that high-resolution digital images are every bit as good as their 35mm counterparts. So who's right?

  •    England, Dorset, Corfe CastleIn this section of each newsletter I'll review one of the many favorite places Linda and I have had an opportunity to visit in our travels.

Last month we visited Airlie Beach, Australia; a bustling town by the sea and the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. This month we're going to travel half way around the world to a quaint English village called Corfe Castle.

  •    England, The Cotswolds, Bourton On The WaterJust in time for the holidays and Christmas we've added plenty of fall and winter photographs to the gallery. Many of these are on sale and can be found on the Sceneramic Photography gallery home page.

Four of the winter pictures are from a small village named Bourton on the Water in the Cotwolds, England. Nothing exudes Christmas like an old English wintry village scene.

  • photo tips - panoramic shots
  •    Panoramic Scenery PhotographToday's digital cameras come with all kinds of buttons, bells and whistles. Some even let you to take in- camera panoramic shots. You simply take consecutive, overlapping shots and the camera "stitches" them together for you to form a single panoramic image. Pretty cool!

If your camera won't let you do panoramics, no worries. You can still do it by using software like MGI PhotoSuite that allow you to stitch images together after the fact. Just follow these steps: 1) Set the camera on a tripod making sure the tripod is level; 2) Manually set the exposure so you have even exposures for each image; 3) After each shot, pan the camera so the next shot overlaps the last by about 1/3; 4) Download the images to your computer; 5) Open them in PhotoSuite and stitch them together. And there you have it.

  • movie - muriel's wedding
  •    DVD: Muriels WeddingIf you're into good comedies you'll love Muriel's Wedding. This Australian made movie was somewhat of a sleeper when it came out in 1995. It's based on the story of a girl in search of a husband. Always being told by her friends she'd never find herself a mate, its now become an obsession.

As somewhat of an overweight, ugly duckling -- and part of a dysfunctional family -- Muriel consoles herself with the music of ABBA. If you're an ABBA fan AND you like comedies you'll especially like this one. ABBA's music is wonderfully intertwined with the twists and turns of the movie. I definitely give 5 stars to this one. In fact, I'm going to watch it again tonight!
